What is a head locks?

Without a feed barrier, dominant animals push others away from the manger. Head locks give each cow her own space, reduce fighting and make it easy to catch an animal that needs attention.

Our head lock sections are built from strong steel pipe with smooth edges to avoid neck injury, and are mounted on your manger or feed fence.

Common Questions About Head Locks

What is the difference between a head lock and a feed barrier?+

A feed barrier only separates cows from the feed. A head lock can also close on the neck to hold the animal in place for treatment.

Do head locks hurt the animals?+

No. Properly sized head locks with smooth edges are comfortable. Animals are held for short periods only.

Can you fit head locks to my existing manger?+

Yes. We measure your manger and fabricate sections to match.
